December 5, 2009, Bill Jolliff
7:30 PM
Tickets: $12.00
Banjoman Bill Jolliff, grew up with the Carter Family in one ear and the gospel songs of the rural churches in the other—almost literally: his Granny Tilly sang the old country ballads and novelty songs, while his Grandmother Helen taught piano right from the hymn book. Bill started picking the banjo in the confusion such a cacophony causes, and, truth to tell, it’s been downhill ever since. But what a joyous ride! He began his professional career in his teens doing live radio on the WMNI Country Cavalcade, took time off to complete a doctoral degree, then returned to gospel bluegrass. When he’s not picking the banjo, guitar, or autoharp, Bill serves as professor of English at George Fox University. “If,” as his Granny Tilly used to put it, “you’re afraid to smile ‘cause your face might crack,” Bill’s performances should be avoided at all costs. But if you’re looking for a wholesome but happy night on the town, you might just want to come on over and pull up a chair. We are pleased to announce that Louanne Fluegal will be playing bass with Bill for this very special performance. Louanne's personality and brilliant smile are the perfect backdrop and the perfect musical fit for Bill's performances. July 16, 2010, The Donna Hughes Band
FRIDAY 7:30 PM
Tickets: $12.00
The Donna Hughes Band brings you right back to bluegrass . . . stunning bluegrass! Donna is a spunky and prolific song-writer. Since she first began writing songs a little over a decade ago she has composed over 250, recording over half of them and her songs have been recorded by other greats of music including Allison Kraus and Union Station. Her first nationally released album was produced by the legendary Tony Rice because, as he says, "I heard something that was down to earth, with a definitive southern flavor to it. And yet there was something different about her voice and the way she structured her music that implied a more flexible, adventurous approach.” The Donna Hughes Band brings you all this . . . and more!!
